What is a Flail Mower?

A flail mower has “flails” that are turned T- or Y-shaped parts of metal attached to a rotating drum at the slim end of the flail. As the drum turns, these flails rotate at a rate that allows them to rip through brush. These flails are separated out across and around the drum to give a thorough cut. The drum itself is powered through PTO drive.

The Benefits of a Flail Mower

Flail mowers have quite a number of benefits over the traditional rotary mower and make themselves valuable for specialized situations.

Much similar to sickle mowers, flail mowers do not force up much in terms of debris. This makes flail mowers helpful in areas where flying debris needs to be held to a minimum.

Also, like sickle mowers, flail mowers can be angled to shave banks as well as to cut bushes and shrubbery, making them valuable for landscapers and maintenance agencies who want flexibility from a single unit.

Because of the flails being fastened on a hinge or change instead of being fixed and unyielding, they will simply spring and deflect off of objects such as rocks and stumps. This means that they won’t break or launch the debris into the air, and they also will not break or distort due to the impact. This can keep you from requiring to repair them or renew them as often.

If a flail is broken, you only have to replace one small, low-priced flail instead of an entire blade.

The heft of the flails and their speed of motion makes them able to attack hard brush – many flails can take out saplings up to 2 inches in diameter. They won’t dull when attempting to take down thick brush either.

The FL range of Flail Mowers for sale are designed for micro tractors, small tractors and are ideal Flail mowers for compact tractors.
